V: The Inside Scriptures is Asoth’s fifth, and if Metal
Archives is to be believed, last album. Given
the connection with Antaeus, I’m surprised I’ve never paid attention
to them before. Trying to accurately describe them is hard, there are
obvious influences from other French black metal peers, probably most
notably Deathspell Omega, but then wrapped in a murky death metal
blanket. Tempo wise this release is all over the map, but I am
happiest when they put some speed on it like on the excellent second
track Her Feet Upon the Earth, Blooming the Fruits of Blood, some of
the slower songs have a tendency to some monotony. All in all not a
bad album to go out on.
