I was a fan of Selbst’s self-titled debut back in 2017, and since then
they’ve just gotten better, the production has gotten a strong push
and is fuller, sharper, yet keeping that black metal rawness that
keeps it from sounding overly polished. As with the debut it’s hard to
shove Selbst neatly into a box, the songs still careen from
blisteringly furious explosions to the more melancholy, and to some
extent in that order; the further you dwell the more atmospheric and
melancholy the album gets, ending in the almost nine minute long
closer Let the Pain Run Through. With Relatos De Angustia Selbst
has exceeded my wildest expectations from their debut and crafted a
truly masterful follow-up, as with many bands we can only wait and
hopefully get to catch them live sometime in the future.
