Sargeist have been a perennial favourite since 2010’s excellent Let
The Devil In, unfortunately Sargeist have really never been able to
come back and exceed what they did then. This year however they come
closer than ever. After having in some ways imploded as a band in the
intervening years they’ve come back with a stronger line-up with only
Shatraug remaining from the original one. Perhaps it’s the new blood
showing as many of the flaws of the albums since Let The Devil In
are gone: once again we have strong memorable riffs building to good
memorable songs (the latter of which many bands tend to fail at).
Exploding out of the gate with Psychosis Incarnate this is full blown
no frills black metal, there is little let up in the following
blistering tracks, not until Death’s Empath rolls around there is some
respite, albeit very brief. This is a truly great black metal album
and Sargeist best in almost a decade, don’t miss it.
