Unfell return with their latest Es grauet the first thing I noticed
was the softer and warmer production, while Mythen, Mären, Pestilenz
had a raw chaotic quality to it this is much more refined. Now I’m
still struggling with if I like this or not, in the end its two
different albums and I guess they thought this sound was more suitable
but I’m a sucker for the raw sound but to each their own. Now that said
this does sound good, everything (and I really mean everything, from
farm animals to bells to well actual black metal instruments) is crisp
and clear. Vocals are as unhinged as always and melodies are catchy
and memorable. So minor quibble aside about the sound this is a fairly
solid album which has gotten a fair amount of spin this year. If you
liked their previous albums chance are you’ll enjoy this too.
