Jordfäst debut Hädanefter consists of only two long songs, but the
time is well utilized and it’s over faster than one knows. Most of the
album proceeds at a low to mid tempo with occasional bursts of speed
the riffing is strong and melodic throughout. The songs have a
tendency to veer of into unexpected territories, you think they’re
going one way but then they decide on a different trajectory,
something which keeps thing interesting. Perhaps most interesting are
the vocals which are very varied, and also very well enunciated making
it possible to understand every word (something which is not a given
with most blackmetal), they are also multi-layered with cleaner vocals
haunting over the harsh ones. While I am not a fan of clean vocals
their occasional appearance here isn’t too bothersome. A strong debut
and I’m curious what comes next.
