I don’t recall when or how I stumbled upon Empyrée by Cénotaphe,
although NCS did have a premiere for this release so I’m going to just
go ahead and assume it’s their fault. Regardless of where or how this
EP (which clocking at over half an hour to me is more like an album -
I have full-lengths which are shorter) it is a gem. The songs are
generally mid-paced and quite melodic the furious vocals wonderfully
harsh albeit with some choiresque interludes now and then. The
keyboard use is frequent but with the exception of some intros blends
well in and never outshines the ravenous delivery of the rest of the
instruments, all of which are played by multi-instrumentalist Fog
while Khaosgott handles vocals. As they’ve only ever released spits
and EPs I am now quite looking forward to what a “real” full-length
will look like. Hopefully I won’t be waiting too long.
