I recall a friend of mine had bought this album around the time it
came out and we were mesmerized by it. It is hard to overemphasize how
difficult of a listen this album is; consisting of long stretches of
industrial noise and samples, only occasionally broken up by harsh
blackmetal riffs. It's almost genius in the way they've structured it,
the rare sections of music are long, and more importantly good enough,
to keep you listening even if the industrial noise parts don't do
anything for you. Now while I enjoy the noise aspects of this album
that is my only complaint, if the purely blackmetal parts had been
more prominent this would have been something one returns to more
often. I should note that the albums they released after this one to
some extent do this. On the CD version of this album they included a
fairly long video which isn't actually any one song from the album but
is actually my favorite part of this album. The video medium works
very well for this sort of music and they make very good use of it.
It's well worth the 13 minutes, and is readily available on YouTube,
I've included a link below. Like the video the whole album is well
worth spending time on listening it will be few people who fall for it
instantly, but given the time to explore it, it's a very worthwhile
endeavor.
