I was a fan of Selbst's self-titled debut back in 2017, and since then
they've just gotten better, the production has gotten a strong push
and is fuller, sharper, yet keeping that black metal rawness that
keeps it from sounding overly polished. As with the debut it's hard to
shove Selbst neatly into a box, the songs still careen from
blisteringly furious explosions to the more melancholy, and to some
extent in that order; the further you dwell the more atmospheric and
melancholy the album gets, ending in the almost nine minute long
closer _Let the Pain Run Through_. With _Relatos De Angustia_ Selbst
has exceeded my wildest expectations from their debut and crafted a
truly masterful follow-up, as with many bands we can only wait and
hopefully get to catch them live sometime in the future.
